Using the Media Library

The Media Library in WordPress is a central location where you can manage all your media files, such as images, videos, audio files, and documents. Here’s a brief explanation of how to use it:

Accessing the Media Library

  1. Login to WordPress Dashboard: Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Navigate to Media Library: From the left-hand menu, click on “Media” to open the Media Library.

Uploading Media

  1. Add New Media:
    • Click the “Add New” button at the top of the Media Library page.
    • Drag and drop files into the upload area or click “Select Files” to choose files from your computer.
  2. Upload Files: The selected files will be uploaded to the Media Library and ready for use on your site.

Viewing and Organizing Media

  1. Grid and List Views: Switch between grid and list views using the icons at the top of the Media Library page.
  2. Search and Filter:
    • Use the search bar to find specific media files by name.
    • Filter files by media type (e.g., images, audio, video) or by date uploaded.

Editing Media

  1. Edit File Information:
    • Click on a media file to open its attachment details.
    • Edit the file’s title, caption, alt text, and description as needed.
  2. Image Editing:
    • For images, click the “Edit Image” button below the attachment details.
    • Use the image editor to crop, rotate, scale, and flip the image.
    • Save changes after editing.

Using Media in Posts and Pages

  1. Inserting Media:
    • While editing a post or page, click the “Add Media” button above the content editor.
    • Select a file from the Media Library or upload a new one.
    • Insert the media into your content, adjusting alignment, size, and link settings.
  2. Replacing Media:
    • To replace an existing media file in your content, click on the media item, then click the pencil icon to edit.
    • Use the “Replace” option to upload a new file or select a different one from the Media Library.

Managing Media

  1. Bulk Actions:
    • In the list view, select multiple media files using checkboxes.
    • Perform bulk actions such as deleting selected files or attaching them to specific posts/pages.
  2. Deleting Media:
    • Click on an individual file and select “Delete Permanently” from the attachment details.
    • Use bulk actions to delete multiple files at once.

  • Attachment Details: Provides detailed information about each file, including its URL, file type, and upload date.
  • Media Settings: Configure default media settings (e.g., image sizes, upload directory) in the “Settings” > “Media” section of the dashboard.
